Birchbark handle bfs lure rod for trout

Ok , here goes for my first ever blog post 🤞🏻

A closer look at my custom fiberglass BFS trout rod builds

After my client saw one of my previous builds he opted for the 5 ft 3 piece white modern hollow , fiberglass s-glass blanks which only weighs 23.5 grams . BFS (or bait finesse system) reel seat hardware in a matching colour for the fuji titanium torzite guides 👌🏻 Ready to make The perfect compact travel rod for streams or small rivers

He wanted the luxury look of birch bark for the handle, which is no slow process. It starts with these raw bark sheets , that have to be processed by removing any lumps and made into stackable pieces, bonded and turned to the desired shape. We then use a process , unique to Resilure , to completely seal the handle , protecting it from the inevitable water and moisture it will come in contact with and give it a very long life.

What you don't see, internal build quality

Once the handle was made it was time for fitting , and as we make our custom lure rods as light strong and as long lasting possible it is mounted in a fairly unique way . The usual way to mount a reel seat is with masking tape wrapped around the blank ( even top factory brands like megabass and stcroix use this method) , but not at Resilure, where possible we now use foam arbors , machined to fit both the blank diameter and the part we are fitting with extreme precision, resulting in a light , strong and perfect fit from one part to another . It will never soak in water like masking tape The main cause for a reel seat to become loose over time. It also transmits vibrations much better so you feel every bite. This takes time to make perfectly but takes your rod to the next level of build quality

Fitting and wrapping The guides to the s-glass blank

Now the handle is complete we move onto the guides or rings as they are also known as

First we decide how many guides we need to use and where to strategically place them to get the most from the blank , a process of static flexing the blank with the guides temporarily placed but able to be moved as required from what the blank tells us.

Once in the most optimal place they are whipped to the blank , this time with 2 colours of silk , one that will go translucent and one brown, the result is a semi transparent finnish that suits the build very well.
